This One Time at Le Pigeon

I finally finally FINALLY have fulfilled one of the main tenets of being a self-proclaimed Portland food blogger…Le Pigeon.

So here’s the thing: Between having a full time job and a very time consuming and severe addiction to socialising, I have not had the time to document this experience until now. My friend, Joey and I hit up Le Pigeon┬álast month; we went all out and ordered wine pairings with each course and I got to experience being local-celebrity-chef starstruck at the fact that Gabriel Rucker himself was handing me my plates.

So long story, short. I loved Le Pigeon. Loved it. The food and presentation was absolutely impeccable; and for having a reputation as one of Portland’s ‘fanciest’ and most expensive restaurants I found the price point to be affordable considering the calibre of food you’re getting.

The menu changes at Le Pigeon rather frequently with a few staples that remain (the Le Pigeon burger, foie gras profiteroles and a couple of the entrees). So with that said, the menu has most definitely changed since my experience, but nevertheless I’ve been anticipating this post just to share with you how glorious this adorable French-inspired eatery’s offerings are.

I loved this appetiser; it was such an unconventional melange of flavours and textures but worked beautifully. Who would have thought to add some glamour to popcorn by combining it with lobster and foie gras?

Joey opted for the pigeon which was not only appropriate considering the namesake of the establishment, but also an incredible decision. The little wontons were stuffed with various pigeon offal (and mushroom if I remember correctly) was delicious.

This was beyond incredible; the steak was a tender generous portion and it was paired with all two of my favourite flavours (truffle and goat cheese if you needed help figuring that out). Definitely going down as one of the best steaks I’ve had in Portland.

So I admit I had REALLY wanted to try the infamous foie gras profiteroles but considering the richness of the prior courses we had to settle for something a little less intense. This was a good dessert, but honestly nothing to write home about; then again my sweet tooth has been slowly evaporating over the past few months so I might not be the best judge.

As I stated earlier in this post, Le Pigeon was phenomenal. The atmosphere is very homey and comfortable and it’s the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a no-rush multiple course platonic or non-platonic date. I know I’ll be back…now I just need to find a way to go to Ox.
